He Gives Me Goosebumps

by Veronika

We’ve all heard it at some point, either in movies, from a girlfriend, or in our own minds: “Being around him just gives me the goosebumps!” Getting chills or giddiness when you’re around the one you love – or at least have an attraction to – isn’t an evil thing; in fact, it can sometimes (I stress the “sometimes”) be an indication that there might be something more there between you and the guy you admire.

I was driving on the way to work this morning, and God blessed me once again with this song from a passionate brother in the Lord whose love for God is probably the most obvious thing about him.

But Your love
Your love
The only the thing that matters is Your love
Your love is all I have to give
Your love is enough to light up the darkness
It’s Your love
Your love
All I ever needed is Your love

I was blessed with this reminder that Jesus’ love is the only thing that really matters. Yes, our familial and romantic relationships are important if they are following God’s will. Yes, we should be mindful of our duties and responsibilities, and work hard to make a difference in others’ lives. But the most important, the most true and beautiful reality in this world, is that Christ’s love for us is amazing. We honestly don’t need anything else but His love – ever. His love, His mercy, is what sustains us in the first place. His mediating work between the righteousness of a perfect God and the condemnatory and just punishment of hell is what keeps us and forms us and makes us whole. The Word says that God Himself gives us our every breath, and He chooses to work through us thanks to the self-sacrifice of His Son. Christ loved us – loved you – enough to be absolutely forsaken by His own God.

How can we not love Him back with everything we have? Dwell on that today; dwell on how rich in love and mercy our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ are.

It will give you goosebumps.
